Run For Your Life!...it's a dance company! and Gadung Kasturi Balinese Dance and Music
present a shared dance concert on July 16th and 17th at Dance Mission Theater
Two very different dance companies will share a show on Friday, July 16th and Saturday, July 17th at Dance Mission Theater
in San Francisco, as part of Dance Brigade's Down and Dirty Dance Series. The humorous and eccentric choreography of Run For Your Life!...it's a dance company!
will complement the classic Balinese performing arts of Gadung Kasturi Balinese Dance and Music.
Both groups will offer Master Classes at Dance Mission. Dudley Brooks will offer a Master Class in Clowning and Dance on Saturday, July 17th, 10:00 am to 12:30 pm, and Kompiang Metri Davies will hold a Master Class in Balinese Dance on Sunday, July 18th, 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
Gadung Kasturi’s performance will feature eight-year-old Chandra Ayu Davies, who was the youngest solo performer at this year's San Francisco
Ethnic Dance Festival. “Chandra Ayu Davies, 8,
simply dazzled in the Balinese classical dance Condong. Davies gave a refined performance ... that proved inspiring.” (Allan Ulrich, SF Chronicle).
The concert, which will be accompanied by the live music of the Balinese gamelan orchestra, will also present the premiere of Nyapuh Jagat, a new dance in classical Balinese style choreographed by
Gadung Kasturi’s Artistic Director Kompiang Metri Davies. Gadung Kasturi Balinese Dance and Music, based in Richmond, CA, is a performing arts group
whose mission is the preservation, promotion, and development of the traditional dance and music of Bali, Indonesia. Gadung Kasturi's website is www.GadungKasturi.org
The mission of San Francisco's Run For Your Life!...it's
a dance company! is to make people laugh and to keep them wondering what will happen next. Run For Your Life! has left audiences rolling in the aisles from San Francisco to Gothenburg, Sweden … a long way to
roll! Run For Your Life!'s humor has been called “delightful” (Rachel Howard, SF Examiner), “in a class by itself” (Allan Ulrich, VoiceOfDance.org), and “really
silly” (Hans and Nils Pink, seven-year-old audience members). The concert will include Artistic Director Dudley Brooks's Roaring '20s version of Stravinsky's The Soldier's Tale and a three-foot-high flying ballerina in the reinterpreted
and re-named classic Les Sillyphides. Run For Your Life!'s website is www.RunForYourLife.org.
All performances and master classes are at Dance Mission Theater 3316 24th Street (corner of Mission)
